Why aren't you wearing this? Juicy Couture Slouchy Newsboy Beret

Most of the time, we don't really want anything we're wearing to be described as slouchy. We did the slouch sock phase, and we're happy to be well past it, and sure, there are slouchy sweaters, but in all honesty, we prefer something with a little more fit.

Calling all you fierce-haired Christian Siriano fans

Do you miss "Project Runway" Season 4 winner Christian Siriano? Perhaps you emulate his "edgy" hair and think, if only you could meet he'd see that you're the fiercest of them all. Maybe you just wish he could apply his mean, judgey little epitaphs to you.

If you're this kind of masochist, do we have a contest for you.

Sponsored by TRESemmé, the contest offers you a chance to upload a photo of your "fiercest" hairstyle. The entries are judged by Christian Siriano (a.k.a. Ferocia Coutura) and Jeanie Syfu, the TRESemmé lead stylist on Project Runway.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall during that evaluation. If an angel dies every time Christian utters "hot tranny mess" then heaven will be empty by the time he gets through the submissions.

Of course, relative to the risk of being ridiculed, the prizes are awesome. A custom design from Christian Siriano and a two-night, all-expenses paid trip for two to New York City. And even though as the winner, one would assume that you already look pretty good, as part of the prize you and your guest will also get a hair makeover to match your new outfit.

So are you game? More importantly, are you fierce? All the details here. Entries are due before August 25th. Good luck!

FSC Barber opens new location, NYC

The newest barber shop in NYC is a perfect mix of old school meets new school. FSC Barber, opened August 1st, is a expanded location based off the success of a not-so-secret location in the LES, a four chair babershop, at the back of a clothing store called Freeman's Sporting Club. It's also where, just down Freemans Alley, Freemans Restaurant and Bar serves a fresh, gourmet menu.

The new location (shown above) sits between the tourist friendly Meatpacking district, the West Village and Chelsea, just a two minute walk south from the 8th Avenue L stop. Part owner Sam Buffa says the location is, "trying to redefine the idea of the barbershop."

The interior features art deco and re-purposed, vintage decor. The worn, blond floor is salvaged Appalachian wood, the left sideboard is vintage Koken and the right sideboard is a recreation to match. The hair washing station rebuffs salon, white glove treatment. It's straightforward and functional with a dual spout and beautiful, vintage basin.

L'Oreal denies Beyonce skin lightening

Recent L'Oreal ads in Elle, Allure, and Essence feature the always fabulous Beyonce, but the ad is garnering a lot of complaints. Why would anybody complain about Beyonce in an ad? She's a knockout, right?

Yes, except her skin looks several shades lighter than it normally does.

The ads for Feria haircolor are, as you might expect, creating a lot of controversy. L'Oreal denies any lightening of the singer's skin, saying, "We highly value our relationship with Ms. Knowles. It is categorically untrue that L'Oreal Paris altered Ms. Knowles' features or skin tone ..."

Dark roots: Yay or nay?

Ever since Madonna rocked the platinum permed hair with super dark roots in the eighties, it seems like every other year (or every other week) some blond actress or singer has shown up at a red carpet event with a dark part, and some fashion magazine has come out and declared that dark roots are in. We say they're trying to hornswoggle us.

Dark roots look okay under the following qualifications:
a) you have enough volume in your hair that there's not a defined line, or
b) you're dressing up as Madonna for an Eighties-themed party.

Why aren't you wearing this? Wool Cloche Hat

All summer long we've been touting the goodness of wearing a summer hat -- you protect your scalp from sunburn, you keep your hair color safe, and, best of all, you can get away with not putting much effort into your hair, which keeps it healthier. With fall approaching, you might not be wearing the oversized straw hat, but there are plenty of fall-friendly caps to keep you covered.

(Click on the photo to see the Top 10 Celeb Hair Nightmares)

Most women have learned certain beauty tricks that keep them from looking older than they are (or looking their age, as the case may be). However, that's not always the case.
