Back to School: Gymboree

Gymboree is one of the biggest names in quality clothing for children, so it should come as no surprise that they have a great catalog of school fashions (and Halloween costumes- yes, already).

Gymboree has fun and playful couture for kids that are fun and playful. Convenient, don't you think? Like many of the other popular retailers of kidwear they understand the value of the the classics, and as such build upon them. The result is a solid line of timeless clothing and clever accessories.

Back to School: The Children's Place

The Children's Place is a one stop destination for the shopping parent of school-aged children. Hence the name.

They carry everything from shoes to underwear and everything in-between. Their clothing is cute and classic, sticking to seasonal influences more than those of pop culture. The result is a timeless quality that will look great on kids now and their younger siblings later.

Why aren't you wearing this? Rain Parade Mini Umbrellas

In some parts of the country (like here, in Florida), this is the time of year when you can pretty much count on a rainstorm between two and four in the afternoon. We're not talking a light sprinkle -- the sky opens up and dumps bucketloads of wet down upon us, and our hair is ruined and our clothes are soaked. Unless, that is, we happen to actually bring our umbrella with us.

Light jackets to take you into fall

Fall weather always provides a bit of a challenge. The weather starts out chilly, but if you dress for that, you could be sweating in the sun by late afternoon. The solution is, of course, to dress in layers, but we can't abide wearing just any old jacket for warmth -- it needs to add something to our outfit, or it's staying in the closet.

The thing is, a great light jacket can be a great addition to your wardrobe. Not only will it serve the purpose of warding off those cool autumn breezes, but it can add color, texture, and shape to your ensemble. The trick is finding the right jacket for you.

Urban Outfitters x Steven Alan

If Urban Outfitters could talk to us, we know the secrets coming from its mouth would be something about how it's always wanted be Topshop. For reals, though, we're almost 100% sure that if Urban Outfitters could take anyone out it would be the British mega retailer. The tension between the two companies is thick and its only going to get more stifling with Topshop landing on our shores this fall. The battle for American fast fashion hearts will be an intense one.

The functionally funky Towelini

And if you want a truly functional towel, you should probably check out the Towelini.

I want that! Rachel Bilson's outfit, head to toe

Rachel Bilson has a great sense of style - fact. Her look from the May 15 launch of Rogan for Target at Barney's in Beverly Hills is a great example of her classic, eclectic look that often mixes high fashion with low. She seamlessly blends a blazer with a bohemian style crocheted dress, neon bangles, and fashion forward open toe boots – a mish mash that probably shouldn't work together but do on Miss Bilson.

Our favorite piece here has to be those killer boots. God, we're such shoe whores.

The real fashion statement of summer: BBQ aprons

There are only two articles of fabric we really care about come summertime, bikinis and barbecue aprons. We could sit here and talk bikinis all day, or better yet we could show you pictures of them. We're not going to do that- at least not in this post.

Wait! Don't leave! You can read about bikinis anytime, how often do you get the opportunity to appreciate the apron? It is the forgotten accessory of summer, but it is a vital one.

An apron is a great way to express oneself. It can be covered in beer bottles or kittens, crude jokes or sweet sentiments. The possibilities are endless. The BBQ Guys have a few examples below:

The bulletproof is in the jacket

Bulletproof cars are so passé, that's Al Capone stuff. We'll see your Tom Cruise and raise you one better- bulletproof clothing.

In Mexico there have been 1,400 drug-related deaths this year alone. Obviously that isn't something to be taken, or discussed, lightly. However, it does appear to be a pretty good marketing campaign for Miguel Caballero, a clothing maker from Colombia who recently opened a shop on Avenida Presidente Masaryk, "a high-end shopping thoroughfare in the Polanco neighborhood, one of the most upscale in Mexico City." This shirt is your biggest fan

We've officially seen it all. Everything. We will no longer be surprised and/or amazed by the offspring created when technology and fashion get together, usually after having one too many at the office Christmas party. It happens.

A company called Kuchofuku has created the answer to all of your sweating in the cubicle blues. They have created a shirt with built in air conditioning that is powered by your USB drive. Seriously. No longer will you have to sit and sweat in the office because Ted in accounting, who refuses to retire, feels a chill.

L.L. Bean: Footwear

L.L. Bean is one of those companies that make a bit of everything. However, don't make the assumption that they are a jack of all trades, master of none, instead consider the full phrase which continues, though ofttimes better than master of one. Thanks, Wikipedia!

L.L. Bean is focused on the outdoors. They make everything from kayaks to baby strollers, tents to sporks. Really. They also have a great line of footwear for the whole family that is as stylish as it is functional. Aesthetics are not sacrificed for performance, or vice versa.

The North Face is outside

Callin' out around the world,
Are you ready for a brand new beat?
Summer's here and the time is right
For dancin' in the streets.

With due respect to Martha and the Vandellas, summer, more or less, is here, and the time is right to get outside and enjoy it. Dancing is optional, but please watch for oncoming traffic.

Positively Organic is positive for kids

We've made no secret of our love for organic clothing. We also enjoy children and fluffy cute stuff. Positively Organic feels likewise and has created a line of clothing for children that is good for the Earth and frankly, cute as a button.

The company was created by a husband and wife team through a series of circumstance and life-altering experiences. It seems to be working out for them.

They run their company based on "the idea of doing well by doing good."

Why aren't you wearing this? Kashmere yellow ombre cashmere-silk wrap

We've touted our love of the light wrap before -- it's a stylish, elegant way to ward off the chill of a light evening breeze. Plus, it's a nice way to give yourself a little extra coverage when wearing a sleeveless top, should you feel the need.

A plain black or white wrap is a good, solid investment -- it'll go with a lot of clothes and always remain in style. However, if you want to be just a little trendier, why not opt for this yellow ombre cashmere-silk wrap, $85 at bluefly.com? It's classy but has just a little bit of a modern edge with the ombre design and the season's hottest color, yellow, and would look fabulous with a sweet little dress or a tank top and jeans.
